Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium

The Miami Museum of Science, an AAM accredited affiliate of the Smithsonian
Institution seeks an experienced individual to care for the museum's
collections consisting of 51,000 objects primarily in the areas of natural
history, Pre-Columbian archaeology/anthropology, and glass photographic
slides. The collection manager has responsibility for overseeing and
implementing collection care, maintenance, safety, documentation and use.
S/he oversees daily use of the collection for exhibits and programs, as
well as executing long term projects of documentation, use, care and
improvement. Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in an
appropriate field and three to five years of full-time museum experience in
a comparable position. Candidates must be familiar with current collection
management strategies and computer database management.

The Museum, founded in 1949, is accredited by the American Association of
Museums and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. The Museum was
recently named recipient of the National Award for Museum Services by the
federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, only one of three Museums
in the country selected for this distinction.

Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council; the Institute of Museums
