There are some excellent high-density polyethylene buckets on the market.
To prevent their deterioration, you should keep them away from UV
exposure--no sunlight, no unfiltered fluorescent lights.
Suggested suppliers in the US include:
Consolidated Plastics, Inc
1864 Enterprise Parkway
Twinsburg, OH 44087
800-362-1000
National Bag
2233 Old Mill Road
Hudson, Ohio 44236
800-247-6000
There are many other suppliers on the internet--search for "polyethylene
bucket" or "HDPE bucket"

Subject: [NHCOLL-L:1839] looking for replacement buckets
We are looking for a replacement for plastic buckets (picnic cooler-size
(approx. 14" x16" x 16")) that we have been using for some "oversized"
fluid-preserved specimens. The buckets that we have been using are beginning
to deteriorate.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
