Dear all,
Thanks for your comments.
I will try to solve the problem with the suggested methods that have been
sent to me.
Jeffrey Maish has suggested using toluene or a poultice with toluene
Paul Mardikian suggested the same than Jeffey Maish and added:"try Toluene
vapors in a glass container too"
And finally J.Carmelo Corral suggested the use of tricloroetilene
I will try to clean the specimen tomorrow. I will do a trail to see what it
gives better results and I will keep you all posted.
Thanks very much for all your comments,
Vicen

It sounds like your mold transferred low molecular weight silicone oils
to the fossil. This generally happens when no barrier is used when
molding with silicone rubbers. You might have to try a poultice with
toluene to remove this material.
FYI, I wrote a paper about staining on terracotta in Studies in
Conservation (1994?); basically the longer the set time and less viscous
the rubber, the more oil is transferred.

Dear all,
I have done a mould of Priscacara liops (fossil fish) from Kemmerer
(Wyoming) with Silastic 3498. The data in the fish mould is great and
the
fish is intact. Saying that, I had a minor problem!. The matrix has
been
damaged by the silastic and it looks like is oily now.
Does anyone know how to get rid off the marks in the matrix?
Thanks in advance,
Vicen
