Collections Management Group Registrar (Band 3)

Starting salary £34,000 per annum
(Depending on experience)



We wish to appoint a Registrar to take the lead in ensuring that the 
Natural History Museum applies the highest standards in collections 
documentation, and compliance with legal and professional requirements. 
This is a new post that will co-ordinate and develop the role of Registrar 
across the Museum. Responsibilities will include analysing current 
procedures, defining and enforcing common documentation standards, 
maintaining current base of knowledge on Museum policy, international and 
local laws, regulations and guidelines, and consultation with appropriate 
international and national bodies to ensure safety of NHM materials in 
transit, on loan and for exhibition.

You will be a teamworker with excellent interpersonal and negotiating 
skills and have a degree or equivalent, preferably in a natural history 
related subject. A museum studies or management qualification would be 
advantageous. Your experience should include general museum work including 
collections management supported by a sound knowledge of best practice and 
desirably should include 3 years of registrar related experience and 
experience of managing by influence.  You must be computer competent and 
preferably your knowledge should cover the ethical and legal issues 
governing acquisition, use and movement of natural history collections.
