#2003-0018 ETHNOLOGY COLLECTIONS MANAGER, Research & Collections.
Full-time/Salaried. EEO 9. Responsibilities: Assist the Registrar
with the management of the ethnology collections through day-to-day care
of the collections, processing all incoming and outgoing
object/artifacts and loans, participate in collecting, preserving,
documenting, sorting, identifying, and maintaining the collection.
Assist in the digitization of the ethnology collection by performing
data entry and supervising work of volunteers and interns. Work with a
team to develop a web-based catalogue accessible to other researchers,
students, and the public. Supervise technical and volunteer staff as
assigned. Keep current with research areas in ethnology, including
trends and techniques in collection-based research. Function as the
liaison between visiting researchers and curators. May participate in
ongoing research and attend professional meetings to represent the
museum. Requirements: Master's degree or equivalent experience with
specialization in ethnology. At least three years experience in
ethnology; involving collection, identification or classification,
preparation and conservation of objects for study, research, or
exhibition. Strong ability to communicate with cultural competency in
different communities. Minimum of two years experience working with
computer databases, preferably ARGUS open edition. Resourceful,
dependable, self-motivated, flexible, and able to solve problems
creatively. Ability to work in a team atmosphere. Ability to work
within a variety of conditions with attention to detail. Ability to
work without direct supervision. Ability to lift/move 40+ lbs. Salary
range low $30's. Grade 8. Application deadline: 12/2/03.
