Systems Administrator II – University of Michigan Herbarium

The University of Michigan Herbarium is searching for a Systems
Administrator to assist in making information associated with the rich plant
resources in the Herbarium available to scientists, resource managers, the
general public and students. This individual would devise procedures to
process and display data using Specify™, a museums management system,
including designing and debugging data entry screens, report forms, and web
interface in coordination with curators and collections managers.  In
addition, this person would provide technical advice to curators,
collections managers and data entry clerks on metadata standards and data
entry procedures; merge several flat files (Filemaker Pro™, Access) for
migration to the SQL relational database; liaise with Specify™ vendor to
meet project objectives; and perform other related duties as assigned by
management. NOTE: This is a 1-year limited-term position.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Information
Technology, Computer Science or a related field or equivalent combination of
education and experience. Considerable experience (2 years minimum) in
communicating complex, technical concepts and information to a wide range of
users and knowledge of client-server and Web based technologies. Experience
supporting Museums database applications and knowledge of systematics is
preferred as well as a strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
2000, browser based applications, Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft
Access 2000 or 2002, and Specify™ .  Experience in process analysis,
designing, developing, supporting and enhancing Specify™ applications. Must
have good interpersonal skills (written and oral), a willingness to learn
new technologies and tools, and be able to develop strong working
relationships and to inspire confidence among academic faculty and
professional staff.
