[NHCOLL-L:2391] cleaning bird bones

Dear All,

We have a collection of bird skeletons (ca. 850 birds) which have 
been kept in quite terrible conditions. (Mostly stored in cabinets 
underneath display cases in our main gallery.)  Now it is time to 
clean them, as they being moved to better storage.  Can anyone please 
advise me on best and quickest methods, particularly for removing 
*soot* from these bones?
