The National Museum of Ireland (Natural History Division) in Dublin 
houses the National collections for geology and zoology in the 
Republic of Ireland. Collections are world-wide in scope, with strong 
elements from other former British colonies.  This Geology curator 
position has reponsibility for the entire geological collections, 
including fossils, minerals, etc.  Fossil collections include 
particular strengths in marine reptiles as well as Carboniferous 
vertebrates and invertebrates from Ireland.  A large portion of the 
geological collections remain undocumented due to historical and 
continued under-staffing, including uncounted 'lost' types waiting to 
be found again.

Duties will include planning for an upcoming new Earth Sciences 
gallery building and exhibits in Dublin, as well as curatorial work 
(collections re-housing, organisation and moving), answering and 
encouraging collections queries, and maintaining a research 
programme.  The applicant is expected to have a strong working 
knowledge of the geology of Britain and Ireland.

The Dublin museum has a strong relationship with the National 
University of Ireland (University College Dublin), through the 
"Collections-based Biology in Dublin" (CoBiD) programme.  The 
collections are physically located in close proximity to the 
collections and library of the Geological Survey of Ireland, so 
collaboration with the GSI is also anticipated.
