Internship Announcement

Founded in 1928, the Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA) combines a
public education and exhibition program with a research center and
intergenerational campus. The Museum is known worldwide for its exploration
of the natural, artistic, and cultural history of the Colorado Plateau. With
funding from the Snow Endowment the Museum offers annual 10 week summer
internships between May 15th and August 30th. Housing and a stipend of
$200 a week are provided to offset expenses.

These internships provide on the job experience to students that
are in museum studies or library science programs or programs with museum
studies options. Four internships in Collections are offered this summer
and will focus in the areas of anthropology, natural sciences, archives,
photoarchives, and library science. Interns can expect to gain experience
with Argus collection management software, environmental monitoring, digital
equipment, and a range of collections management issues. Projects this
summer include the rehousing of the fluid preserved collections, an
inventory/inspection of zoological skin collections, the development of an
exhibit inventory and inspection procedure, cataloging of a trader token
collection, and rehousing projects in the anthropology collections. Library
projects will include cataloguing and organizing the manuscript and archival
collections, working with departments on archival policy, and journal
indexing.

The MNA has a diverse collection of 4.5 million items (ethnology,
archaeology, fine arts, paleontology, zoology, botany, photoarchives,
archives, and library). Submit a letter of interest, resume, and 3 letters
of reference by April 1st.
