The Museum of Comparative Zoology of Harvard University invites 
applications for a permanent, full-time staff position as Manager, 
Collections Operations.  This individual will provide intellectual and 
administrative leadership to a new Museum initiative dedicated to the 
integration and coordination of collections activities among the museum's 
ten research departments, including facilities enhancement, electronic 
collection database, loan records and other inventory policies and 
procedures, and production of annual reports, etc.  The position will 
report to the Director of the MCZ and the Director of Administration of its 
cognate academic department, Organismic and Evolutionary biology and work 
closely with the curatorial staff of individual research collections and 
with the MCZ's database and information technology specialists.

The MCZ contains the worlds largest university-based zoological 
collections.  These currently number around 21,000,000 specimens, including 
many thousands of type specimens.  The collections are cosmopolitan in 
geographic scope, taxonomically comprehensive, and scientifically 
important; they document continuous research and teaching activity in 
comparative zoology for the last 150 years.  Each research department has a 
faculty curator and full-time collections staff.

Requirements include advanced training (MA or PhD) in zoology or a related 
discipline, with demonstrated experience in management and integration of 
natural history collections.  Familiarity with contemporary 
collections-based research is essential.  Excellent communication and 
organizational skills as well as facility and familiarity with electronic 
database procedures and initiatives are desired, as is ability to manage 
cooperatively and engage a broad constituency.
