SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science seeks a collections manager to
oversee its significant collections in Native American and World
ethnology and archaeology.  The collections manager will share the
responsibility with the curatorial staff for the management, access, and
preservation of permanent and temporary collections located in storage,
on exhibit and on loan as well as metadata and digitized media.   The
collection manager will facilitate the accession, deaccession,
documentation, registration, and preparation of collections in a timely
manner; organize and systematically store the collections; facilitate
access and use of collections for the purposes of research, education,
and exhibit;  implement conservation procedures to provide long-term
preservation of the collections in cooperation  with the Conservation
department; maintain associated collections data in electronic and paper
format; train and supervise a team of  15-30 volunteers and interns; and
support the Museum in complying with the letter and the spirit of  the
NAGPRA legislation. DMNS is beginning an initiative to rehouse all of
its collections and the collections manager will have an integral role
in the planning and implementation of this new collection facility. 


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:	
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates must have advanced knowledge and experience in museum
collections management and relational database use (ARGUS experience
preferred); and a background in anthropology, Native American ethnology,
archaeology or museum studies.  Candidates must be capable of precise
and detail-oriented work, have good communication and problem-solving
skills, and have skills in managing an active and devoted group of
volunteers.  

Education/Experience:
BA in Anthropology and MA in Museum Studies or equivalent, and 3 years
experience managing ethnographic and archaeological collections or
equivalent.
