Subject: insect question

Hello all,

First a quick introduction as I am new to the group. Many of you may know Lyda Carrol who recently retired from The Museum in Greenwood, SC and I am her replacement. Matt Edwards. I've been monitoring the messages for the last few weeks and have found them quite valuable as the greatest part of my background has is in the marketing/pr and administration aspect of musuems.

Now on to my question. We are currently reorganizing and interpreting some of our exhibits--many for the first time since the museum moved to this site in 1982. I have come across 2 butterflies/moths that peaked my curiosity because of the existing labels and being an anthropologist, not an entomologist by training I'm hoping you (the collective) can confirm or deny the info.

the critters in question:
1) labeled "letmecreola--very rare"

and more importantly

2) labeled "callos securifera or callosamia carolina moth and cacoon" additonall it is labeled "so rare that fewer than 6 museums in the US have the specimens" please bear in mind this label could date as far back as 1968.

with regards to #2 is the writer implying that both are accepable nomenclature for this critter or that they are not sure which of the two it is. AND is it indeed as rare in museums as the label indicates?

thanks in advance for your help.

matt
