I believe that the suggested alternative to the Rapidoliners, namely a
rapidograph, has been widely used in the museum profession for decades. I
know I used them back in the 1970's long before I discovered Rapidoliners.
Both Rotring and Koh-I-Noor make rapidographs. Both came with a wide
ranging series of pen nib sizes. The main difference between a rapidograph
and a Rapidoliner is that fact that the ink cartridge and pen nib are not
one unit for the rapidograph as they are for a Rapidoliner.
With a rapidograph you either have an ink cartridge to replace or a tube to
refill. The nibs are interchangeable so if the pen nib breaks or is damaged
it can be easily replaced without having to also throw out the ink tube.
