SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) seeks a Conservation
Technician to work with the DMNS Conservator and Collections Managers to
implement Museum Conservation Department work plan goals and objectives
in the Long-range Conservation Plan. In particular, the Conservation
Technician will assist in implementing environmental monitoring programs
that help DMNS identify deterioration sources arising from physical
forces, pests, contaminants, light, and incorrect temperature and
relative humidity. The Technician will examine pest traps and
environmental monitoring equipment located in anthropology, earth
science, and zoology collection storage and exhibit areas; add
monitoring information into existing databases; research and test
conservation-approved materials; fabricate specimen storage mounts; and
assist with Conservation Laboratory functions, such as implementing
safety procedures, mixing adhesives, and organizing tools and
maintenance inspections of pest eradication freezers. DMNS is beginning
an initiative to rehouse all of its collections and the Conservation
Technician will have a role helping to provide baseline monitoring of
this new collection facility.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates must have strong organizational, problem-solving, time
management, and highly developed hand skills. Candidates must be capable
of precise and detail-oriented work, have good written and verbal
communication skills, and have supervisory skills to manage an active
and devoted group of volunteers. Candidates must have advanced knowledge
of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Internet
computer applications.


Education/Experience:
B/A in Anthropology, Archaeology, Earth Sciences, Biological Sciences or
Studio Art and 1 year 
previous experience working in a science lab or art studio is required.
Previous museum experience is preferred.
