Dallas Museum of Natural History, Dallas, TX USA

The Dallas Museum of Natural History currently has a position available
for a collections manager.  The Museum has an active research program in
the Earth Sciences but also has collections of importance in the
Biological Sciences.  Further, the Museum is in the midst of a major
capital campaign for a new Nature and Science facility in a vibrant
section of downtown Dallas.

Responsibilities and duties of the position are:

1)      develop and administer policies and procedures for acquisition,
deaccession, loans, receipts, shipment, access, and overall day-to-day
care and handling of museum objects

2)      oversee collections upgrades

3)      supervise volunteers that contribute to the specimen care 

4)      cataloguing of new collections

5)      database management 

6)      photographing specimens 

7)      cataloging and storing digital images

8)      preparation of specimens may be needed 

Qualifications: Advanced degree in a relevant field desired. Collection
and staff management skills and experience will be the major determining
factor in the selection. Knowledge of taxonomy and experience with
collection databases required; experience with conservation methods and
successful grant proposal writing desirable.  Experience working with
museum collections, project management, and department budgeting
desired.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, as
well as the ability to both work independently and in a busy team
environment.
