[NHCOLL-L:2966] IACUC protocols for museum-based collecting trips

Dear all,

I have been asked to write up a general "blanket-type" protocol of our
field collecting intents for our Univerisity's IACUC (institutional animal
care and use committee).

The argument is that when researchers work on projects that generate
specimens, those arrive dead and/or preserved and are covered by the
researcher's permits and protocols; however, when on museum-sponsored
field trips our division staff collects and prepares specimens, the
responsibility of having the protocol falls on our staff.

I am curious if anyone has submitted such a general protocol (which would
cover a broad suite of taxa, collection methods, and preservation
techniques) to their IACUC or whether most museum personnel just write
IACUC protocols on a per project / expedition basis. If you did complete a
general protocol, would you be willing to share it with us?

thanks in advance!
