I'd like to add that lipids from specimens tissues that get extracted by
the preservatives will greatly damage the laser printed labels. We were
having ink dropping off the labels even without abrasion. I had a
lengthy discussion about this topic with one of HP's ink engineers and
he told me that fats will interact with the solvent used in the toners
and release the ink from the paper. Thus, as John stated, label tests
without specimens in the jars and with clean preservative are pretty
much useless.
