Dear Drs:

I am a marine and aquatic biologist from two universities in USA (Missouri
and Pennsylvania), now working in Colombia, near the Pacific Ocean.

I have recently started to organized the biology collections (botany,
vertebrates, invertebrates, and arqueology) of the Museum of INCIVA (a
environmental institute for research and teaching), thu the development of
GUIDES, PROTOCOLS, MANUALS...that may help people do thing on the best way
possible, without the need of doing things by guessing. Thos manuals (etc.)
do not exist at this institute, and are very big need.

As a route to do so, we have planned to develop and socialized a type of
guide regarding several aspects related to collections of reference. The
first one (since there are others that I am planing, such other ones on how
the collection should be organized, catalogued, maintained, preserved) will
be dealing with THE USE AND MANAGEMENT OF SCIENTIFIC COLLECTIONS.

I wonder wether you may have available, or may know where to find such type
of information, specially on the INTERNET.

Here, our best bet is the Internet, since the libraries are very poor on
such information. Otherwise scientists from around the world are extremely
useful for getting information, and learn and understand many things.

The GUIDE that we are planning to assemble should direct people, on the way
to loan specimens, to make donations, to receive specimens, what to do when
that occurr, how to handle the speciments when using them, how to do it when
there are visitors that want to study certain specimens, which formats of
request use, etc. It is like some sort of PROTOCOL.

My mailing address is:

Thank you very much for all your help.

Cordially yours,

Carlos Fernandez
