[NHCOLL-L:3532] Posting photos of collections on the internet

The other day I had an enthusiastic young man and his mother visit the
museum to see our Passenger Pigeon specimen. He has been learning about
them on his own, mostly on the internet I am afraid, and was thrilled to
be able to see one in real life. I let him take photos of the specimen
but later found out he wanted to post them to his My Space page and to
send them to his favorite Passenger Pigeon website. The site allows
people to send in their photos, as well as list prints and artwork for
sale. There were even a couple of people selling their specimens.
My initial thought is that posting the photos on My Space might not be
any different than someone's vacation photos taken in the galleries of
the museum. The other site concerns me though. The young man was nice
enough to agree not to post anything until he heard from me. Am I
over-thinking this or is there cause for concern? I will appreciate
anyone's thoughts.
Respectfully,
