All three museum's I've been associated with use Uniball pens. They are fairly inexpensive, and are indelible. I can't guarantee how long they will last but have performed superbly in long term (10+ years) archival tests (exposure to uv light, alchol, water, and formalin).

Well the Pigma pens use a pigment based ink as does india ink and they
are waterproof and fade proof but they haven't been around as long as
india ink so can't guarantee that they last as long. But they are
rated for archival work.

Good afternoon everyone,
Due to the low humidity
in Nevada
I was looking for another option
besides Rapidographs (and quill pens) for labeling artifacts. People
have
mentioned using Pigma or Zig pens for this purpose. Does anyone know
if
Pigma or Zig pens last as long as the India ink used in Rapidographs?
Thanks for your input.
