Collections Assistant

(Role Title: Laboratory & Research Specialist I)

Salary Range:  Pay Band 3            

Location:  Martinsville, VA


Minimum Starting Pay:  $24,000

The position of Collections Assistant is full-time with an excellent
state benefits package.  

This is a grant-funded position from February 1, 2008, to January 31,
2011, with possible renewal.

As Collections Assistant, you will be responsible for providing
excellent collections care and maintenance as well as access to the
collections. Duties will also include responding to requests by
researchers for access to collections, overseeing their visits,
supervising of collections sampling by visitors and rehousing sampled
collections in the collections storage facility.  All duties will be
carried out in accordance with Virginia Museum of Natural History
collections policies.  

 

You will be responsible for opening the collections facility in the
morning and securing it in the afternoon.  Extensive local travel to an
off-site collections storage facility will be required.  Vehicle and/or
mileage reimbursement is available.    

 

Strong customer service skills and ability to work well with others is
required.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.  Bachelor's
degree in geology preferred.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
