AVECOL and NHCOLL (apologies for the cross-posting):

I am very pleased to announce that the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology has a
new specimen database in production, "Arctos." The link is
http://mvzarctos.berkeley.edu/, which you can find on the MVZ home page.
This system is a collaboration primarily with the University of Alaska
Museum, with significant support from the IS&T Department on the Berkeley
campus. To read more about Arctos, go to
http://mvzarctos.berkeley.edu/home.cfm

This is a completely new system, and it may take some getting used to. It is
also still under development...an endless and ongoing process. However, this
new system is a major improvement in terms of flexibility in queries and
kinds of outputs, and also provides much needed collection management tools
(tracking of specimens used in loans, publications, projects, accessions,
permits, etc.).

This release is primarily for searching specimens, although you will note
from the Specimen Search page that you can also search MVZ images and
notebook pages. The image query is only metadata associated with images, not
the images themselves. For fieldnotes, it is best to continue querying
http://bscit.berkeley.edu/mvz/volumes.html?. Interfaces for searching images
and fieldnotes will be coming as part of Phase II of the Arctos project. MVZ
reprints are still searchable from
http://docubase.berkeley.edu/reprints.html

To get the most out of your queries, you should create an account which
allows you to customize the search form (Advanced Features). You also need
an account to download data.

Thanks,
Carla
