[NHCOLL-L:3713] RE: APOLOGY: survey for nsca

It would be interesting to know which institutions are being surveyed (Cal
Academy, AMNH, Acnatsci, etc.) and not clear whether NSF can share that
information with the NHCOLL listserv.

The former ASC (now called NSCA) conducted a USGS-funded survey of
collections during the period 1996-1998 that was finalized and went online
in 2000 (?) and is still online through the nscalliance.org web site and
also on the NBII web site. The raw data for the surveys (about 400
institutions) was not comprehensive across all natural science collections
(some institutions were not willing to share data), but there was a LOT of
raw material there in hardcopy form to review. It's unclear where those
surveys are now, because NSCA moved from K Street in DC, to the Natural
History Museum at SI, and now to suburban Virginia.

Hello all,
As most of you have realized, you cannot access the survey. I contacted
Richard McCourt and evidently, this was not an open survey.
Sorry for the confusion.
See below.

Dear Marcy,

Thank you for your interest. The NSF survey is, however, limited to a
set of current and former grantees only and cannot be expanded to other
institutions at this time.
