Position Description: Two year grant funded position to assist with the
planning and implementation of the move of museum objects into the new Easton
Collection Center in mid-2009. The Move Coordinator will be responsible for
scheduling, determining storage requirements, overseeing packing, transport
and unpacking activities, tracking objects, and ensuring the safe and orderly
move of collection objects. The candidate will consult with MNA's consultant
conservator, negotiate contracts with vendors, and collaborate with museum
collection and facilities staff, interns, students, and volunteers.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities to be Coordinated with Collection Department
and Consultant Conservator include, but are not limited to:
* Develop, prioritize, and coordinate move goals and budget.
* Plan and develop a move schedule.
* Develop appropriate packing strategies.
* Develop written handling procedures for the move.
* Determine needed supplies and materials.
* Negotiate with vendors, purchase, and maintain needed supplies.
* Assure items are tracked and stored properly.
* Maintain and reconcile detailed inventories.
* Oversee and supervise the movement of collection objects.
* Assist with plans to reconfigure vacated old storage areas to
improve efficient use and organization of remaining collections.
* Train interns, students, and volunteers in safe object handling.
* Provide day-to-day instruction and supervision for interns,
students, and volunteers.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Masters degree in museum studies or related discipline with experience or
training in moving collections preferred.
Abilities, Skills, and Knowledge:
Demonstrated ability to communicate, orally and in writing Good
organizational skills and attention to detail
Competent with collection management software, spreadsheets, and word
processing Hold a valid drivers license
Ability to work independently as well as with student interns and volunteers
Working Conditions:
Generally work indoors 7 hours per day, usually between 9 am and 5 pm. Odd
hours and long days may occasionally be required. Must be able to stand for
long periods, stoop and bend, lift up to 50 lbs, ascend and descend stairs,
and handle fragile items.
Job contingent on satisfactory passing of background security check
