good morning folks:

sorry to cross post but would like to reach as many as possible for as 
many suggestions as possible.

please reply to me here at the u rather than clutter up the lists servers.

the folks  "in charge" here in the department of biology, university of 
central florida (orlando, florida)  have decided that the creation of a 
position  of  collections manager might be order.   i have been asked to 
see what i can do in order to develop a set of guidelines or job 
description for the same. this has been along time coming.

the university is young and still growing even though we  now have 
around 50,000 students -  one way or another. in the last two or three 
years there has been a complete turn over in the faculty. and all the 
folks of old are gone.  we no longer have a mammalogist, herpatologist, 
ornithologist, botanist, etc. as such but are heavy into the 
environmental/conservational/ecological/evolutionary lines.  however, we 
do have some small, mostly regional and reference/teaching collections.  
the three most active are currently:  the herbarium (housed in another 
building);  the fish collection which is being revamped; and the 
arthropod (insect ) collection which is quite active and still growing 
(see web site in signature block below).

it is suggested that the collections manager be a master degree bearing 
person. i, of course,  would like to think it would be an insect person, 
but the job description should somehow cover all the aspects of the 
collections. plant, liquid (fish and herps) , skin (bird and mammal), as 
well as the arthropod collection.

that might be used and adapted to fit our needs, please feel free to 
send them to me direct.
