Explore the role and development of exhibits and programs, and ways in which knowledge is shared through collections, research, public partnership, and audience development.

Consider the philosophical, ethical and practical aspects of physical intervention and conservation as they apply to the management of heritage resources.

Caring for Collections
January 12 - April 19
Investigate the physical characteristics of various types of museum collections, the ways they are affected by a range of environmental factors, and the preventive conservation and treatment policies and procedures that are utilized to ensure the safe-keeping of artifacts and specimens in storage, on exhibit, in transit, and when in use for research and programming purposes.

Determining Significance of Historic Resources
January 12-April 19
Examine the range of historic, aesthetic, social, and scientific values that establish the significance and character-defining elements of historic resources, buildings, and cultural landscapes.
Instructor: Alastair Kerr is Manager of Heritage Programs for the British Columbia Heritage Branch and a leading speaker and advisor in heritage planning and historic resource evaluation.

Human Resource Management in Cultural Organizations
January 12-April 19
Sustaining a healthy organization requires the development and implementation of positive and supportive human resource practices. This course, for anyone involved in supervising or managing staff or volunteers in cultural organizations, focuses on organizational dynamics, leadership and decision-making, policy development, recruitment and retention, performance planning, and communications.
