Hello all,
I'm a student curator of collections at The Evergreen State College. A facilities disaster struck us last spring when a water pipe burst in the ceiling above one of our skins cabinets. After (somewhat) recovering from our shock and dismay, our watery squirrels spent the summer in freezer/dryer cycling, and now we are contemplating swapping out the cotton stuffing on a few of them. Has anyone on list restored water damaged skins, or know anyone who has? Any advice is welcome, and I'm particularly concerned with addressing remaining moisture on the inside of the skins. I'm inclined to try a desiccant, but feel quite uncertain all around.
I can be reached at natural-history at evergreen.edu if you'd like to respond off-list.
Thank you,
Max Whetstine
