It depends on the dimensions of the piece, insurance, and ease of sending the item for the client. Personally, I found the DHL complaint premature and lacking in specifics. I believe in working out such problems and finding a solution instead of lambasting a company publicly like that. Any of the the shipping methods would be fine for an item like that. It just has to be packaged properly, and shipped with insurance. The problems we have are encountered when we have to ship items that fall into hazmat classification, require customs, CITES, 3-177 forms, and go international. Domestic shipping is simple.

A (domestic) client from the Southeast is planning on shipping a piece of ethnographic art to our studio in the New York area. We will be giving information on proper packing but I was hoping to receive some feedback from the list on which shipping company to use. But I was wondering if people had preferences for either United States Postal Service, FedEx or UPS. The recent thread on the NHCOLL list would seem to rule out DHL. The piece is approximately 16 inches long and not very heavy. It would need to be shipped in the fastest means possible and with insurance.

Thank you,
Rachael
