Federal Update
The Save America’s Treasures (SAT) program at the National Park Service was not funded for Fiscal Year 2011, so no new grants are being made this year. Since the President’s budget for Fiscal Year 2012 did not include funding for SAT, prospects for having funding for the program restored next year are remote. However, the program is authorized by federal law, so Heritage Preservation and other interested organizations will work in the years ahead to have this critical support restored. If you have a success story to share about work you have done with a SAT grant, please let us know at info at heritagepreservation.org.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has closed its SAT office. The National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Grants division will, however, continue to manage all previously awarded and active grants.

Announcing the Public Launch of the Connecting to Collections Online Community

Community offers the Chance to Connect wtih Colleagues and Experts

Heritage Preservation has launched the Connecting to Collections (C2C) Online Community, an interactive resource that connects staff at small museums, archives, and libraries with each other and with solid information about collections care. All readers of Update are invited to join.

The site includes free Webinars with leading conservation professionals; a discussion forum where community members can post questions and assist one another; an archive of past discussions and presentations sorted by topic. The community is produced in cooperation with the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) and with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). To learn more about the community, click here.

Nominations Sought by December 15 for AIC/Heritage Preservation Ross Merrill Award
The Joint AIC/Heritage Preservation Ross Merrill Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Preservation and Care of Collections was renamed in 2011 in honor of the late Ross Merrill, former Chairman of Heritage Preservation and the National Gallery’s chief of conservation. Click here for more information on the award and how to nominate your institution.

Heritage Preservation is pleased to have received a grant from the IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarians Program for a new series of nine webinars in 2012 and 2013. These programs will serve primarily smaller libraries and archives. Watch the next issue of Update for further information on the series.
