Description:*
Certified Institutional Protection Specialist (CIPS) certification
designates those professionals working in, or directly responsible for
the protection of cultural facilities or public institutions. This
course is offered through the International Federation for Cultural
Property Protection (IFCPP) with special adaptations for
museumclasses.org students. This IFCPP basic certification is for
proprietary or contract security officers, supervisors, security
training managers, human resources, facilities managers, registrars,
curators, or other staff with duties in facility protection.
As the world security situation changes, our program expands to include
topical information and improved tactics for combating elevated threats.
Security officers meeting the International Foundation for Cultural
Property Protection's requirements for certification, to include
completion of a background investigation, will also be eligible for CIPS
certification by completing all 11 topics and online written quizzes for
each segment. The program includes a brief examination after each online
video class, as well required certification paperwork.

Participants in Security I - Certified Institutional Protection
Specialist (CIPS) Basic Training & Certification Program work at their
own pace through sections and interact with the instructor through live
blogging. Instructor Steve Layne is available at scheduled times during
the course for support. Security I - Certified Institutional Protection
Specialist includes video training, the Cultural Protection Manual, and
a 6-month trial membership to the International Federation for Cultural
Property Protection (IFCPP).

*Stevan P. Layne* is the principal consultant and chief executive of
Layne Consultants International, a leading provider of cultural property
protection advice. Steve is a former police chief, public safety
director and museum security director. He is the author of The Cultural
Property Protection Manual, and the Business Survival Guide. Steve
regularly presents to professional associations and has consulted with
more than 400 museums and other institutions. Steve is the founding
director of the International Foundation for Cultural Property
Protection and responsible for the professional training and
certification of more than 1,000 museum professionals.
