Heritage Emergency National Task Force Update

As Hurricane Isaac approaches the Gulf Coast, historic sites and cultural treasures are threatened by high winds, heavy rain, and flooding. The Heritage Emergency National Task Force website has resources to help at www.heritageemergency.org<http://heritagepreservation.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=00cbcc194404641e545c4b972&id=80dff3495c&e=5732b353ec> and is monitoring Isaac here<http://heritagepreservation.us1.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=00cbcc194404641e545c4b972&id=59e411517c&e=5732b353ec>.

Heritage Preservation’s “Information on Major Disasters” W<http://heritagepreservation.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=00cbcc194404641e545c4b972&id=acceff6b2f&e=5732b353ec>eb page<http://heritagepreservation.us1.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=00cbcc194404641e545c4b972&id=cfac229044&e=5732b353ec> contains links to disaster response and recovery resources, contact information for key state emergency management and cultural agencies, FEMA regional environmental officers, and a damage reporting tool<http://heritagepreservation.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=00cbcc194404641e545c4b972&id=2b1334d0c7&e=5732b353ec> for cultural heritage institutions and sites.

If you learn of any cultural institutions or historic sites or properties that are affected by flooding, please let me know. If any need assistance, we can direct them to trained volunteers and to staff at federal agencies that can provide advice on the salvage and recovery of damaged collections, holdings, and historic properties. “Natural and Cultural Resources” (NCR) is one of six Recovery Support Functions (RSFs) of the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF). The Task Force is a Supporting Organization of the NDRF NCR RSF and as such will have a formal role in recovery if there is a presidential disaster declaration for Hurricane Isaac.

If Hurricane Isaac causes widespread damage, Heritage Preservation will convene a conference call for Heritage Emergency National Task Force members and state cultural and emergency management agencies to discuss response and recovery efforts. If a call is convened, you will receive another email with the call-in information and a draft agenda. If you’re unable to join us, a summary will be posted soon after the call.

We hope for the best for our colleagues, their family and friends, and institutions in the path of Hurricane Isaac.
