Lucia,

I know that the MUSM in Lima, Perú, was included in the CITES list of registered institutions recently (in the last five years?). You could ask Hernán Ortega (Ichthyology) and or Betty Millán (Botany/Director of the Museum) about their experience. I will send their information to you.

Dear all,

I would like to know how to register our collection under the CITES list of
registered institutions to exchange scientific material. We recently
received a message from New Zealand (see below) calling our attention to
the need of this registration, but apparently, the eletronic addresses sent
do not deal with registration.

see message below:
In order to send our specimens out of the country, we need the destination
institution to be registered either with CITES, or with the Australia
Wildlife Trade and Conservation group. I don't know if Brazil is a
signatory to the CITES agreement, so probably your best bet is to apply for
a Wildlife Trade permit. The only other option is to find an institute
nearby with a CITES number that you can get the specimens sent to for you
to collect.
The list of countries and CITES registered institutions can be found here:
http://www.cites.org/common/reg/e_si.html
The Wildlife Trade permit form can be found here:
http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/wildlife-trade/permits/forms/exchange.html

I would be very glad to hear anything from you. Thanks for all
