[Nhcoll-l] vendor for wide-mouth gallon jars?

Andy, I agree that the 120mm gallon jars were nice to
have for (some) wide bodied specimens, and especially
snakes. But I think you would agree with me that specimen
tanks can be a more efficient way organize and conserve
those wide bodied or larger specimens (fishes, amphibians,
and reptiles) without sacrificing rows and rows of shelves
to gallon jars holding single lots that can be tagged and
combined (systematically)into a tank. We have also found
that the (wider "foot print")gallon jars can be readily
replaced by the (narrower "foot print") 3-liter Le Parfait
for large lots of small fishes or tagged frogs and
lizards. Thereby, saving shelf space.

I would venture a guess that in the long run, budgeting
your annual costs to include the purchase of a few
specimen tanks each year rather than specialty specimen
jars (or even stock jars that can be used for larger
specimens) may prove a better way to spend the money and
conserve the specimens. (I.e., the temptation to fit a
specimen into a larger jar than is good for the specimen
rather than tag it and commit it to a tank, exposure to
light, etc.)

Best, Lex
