Many collections have been using b&w text from inkjet printers and impact
printers for at least 2 decades. For a long time, Entoprint was used to
produce labels on MacOS computers (a program I marketed in the early 1990s)
- and is still available from the software developer online for free.
However, most labels are easily produced via any word-processing program
or as a label from a database program.
It has long been established to NOT use laser printers, as the plasticized
carbon will lift off the paper under various conditions, as well as erode
from the paper when handled. There is probably a body of work online
somewhere in the Herpetology and Ichtyology realm where this has all been
worked out.
