Hi all

The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) announces the posting of the SPNHC Strategic Plan on the SPNHC website (www.spnhc.org<http://www.spnhc.org>). The full document is available here http://www.spnhc.org/media/assets/SPNHCStrategicPlan.pdf (the link is available from the main page through the What SPNHC Does/Governance menu item).

The document is the culmination of a process begun at a two-day strategic planning meeting in February 2012 in New Haven, Connecticut attended by chairs of committees and representatives from Council and the Long Range Planning Committee. Based on these discussions, a Framework Strategic Plan was drafted in April 2012 and circulated to Committees for consultation and comment. The Framework document was also presented to the Society's membership at the 2012 Annual Business Meeting in June.

The SPNHC Strategic Plan envisages four main goals for the Society

* To show leadership

* To communicate

* To provide value for money

* To work internationally

Within each of these goals, there are a series of objectives, set out in terms of short (1-2 years), medium (3-5 years), or long term (5 year plus) actions.

This plan is being posted (and will be sent in full to all members in the March SPNHC newsletter) to elicit response/comment and participation in the implementation of this plan by the members of the society. The goals and tasks outlined in this plan can only be accomplished with the participation of, and buy in from, our membership. The society's goals are driven and accomplished by the tireless efforts of all of you. If you have any ideas, responses, suggestions or comments please send these to me, Andy Bentley (abentley at ku.edu<mailto:abentley at ku.edu>). If you are interested in any of the specific goals of the plan or would be interested in assisting in any way, please contact me or a member of council or any representative of the many committees of the society as listed here: http://www.spnhc.org/6.

Thanks in advance

Andy
