I have no knowledge of them being used for collections, however we have some that are used for files.  Make sure you estimate the total weight and be sure your floor loading will take that much weight.  Otherwise, the equipment will get out of alignment and jam and you could of course cause structural problems to your building.

Dear Colleagues

Has anyone any experience  or examples of the use of Kardex Shuttle automated storage systems for natural history material? These systems are mostly used in industrial or commercial settings.  I know of one example from the museum world in the UK and that is in an art gallery. Any comments or observations welcome.
