Biodiversity Informatics Software Developer
The Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute

The Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute (TUBRI) invites applications for a Biodiversity Informatics Software Developer .

The position is located at the Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute in Belle Chasse, LA (http://www.tubri.org/).

TUBRI supports a large research collection of fishes and is involved in a number of externally funded research projects involving digitization and electronic dissemination of biological specimen records. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Nelson Rios (http://www.museum.tulane.edu/nelson/) on various Biodiversity Informatics projects ongoing at TUBRI, including the GEOLocate georeferencing platform (http://www.museum.tulane.edu/geolocate/), GEOLocate's Collaborative Georeferencing infrastructure (http://www.museum.tulane.edu/coge/), Fishnet 2 (http://www.fishnet2.net/), and VertNet (http://www.vertnet.org/index.php).

Candidates must have an advanced degree (M.Sc. or higher) in Biodiversity Informatics, Biology or Computer Science and/or three years of experience in the field of biodiversity informatics with a focus on software development, database design and management, geographic information systems and data analysis.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in .Net, AJAX, Javascript, HTML 5, CSS, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Quantum GIS, ArcView, WMS/WFS, OpenLayers and R).  Other desired qualifications include biodiversity informatics research experience; familiarity with biodiversity collections data; familiarity with nomenclatural and taxonomic practices and standards (e.g. Darwin Core);  past participation in funded research projects in Biodiversity Informatics (e.g., NSF-ABI, ADBC, CISE programs, GBIF, etc.).  We are looking for someone who is adaptable, a team player, has good communication skills, and is willing to take on new challenges.
