For those interested in an in-depth discussion of placing a value on a
natural history collection I would recommend perusing The Value and
Valuation of Natural Science Collections edited by JR Nudds and CW
Pettitt, published in 1997 by the Geological Society of London. It is the
published report of the Proceedings of the International Conference,
Manchester, 1995.
The major subject headings are:
The scientific value of collections
The cultural value of collections
The financial value of collections
