James,

Our UNA herbarium database in Access has the ability to record multiple determinations. Typically when a specimen is first databased I will only record the most recent determination. From then on I record all subsequent determinations. I am also working on two research specimen databases in Access one for the family Gesneriaceae and another where John Clark records his collections and prints labels. These databases are not set up to record multiple determinations.

Subject: [HERBARIA] Storing multiple determinations in databases

Colleagues,

I am interested to know how many collection management databases DO NOT have the ability to store multiple determinations/identifications for a given specimen. If you have a field for the name on the specimen label (=original identification) and a field for a single determination, which typically is managed by most recent date, then this still counts as "DO NOT." If you use a database at your institution or have knowledge of others that cannot support multiple determinations can you please send me the name of the software off list.

Thanks very much!

James
