The Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material invites registrations to attend a 4-day workshop on the conservation of fluid-preserved biological specimens to be run at Melbourne Museum in late February and early March 2014.

The course will be led by Simon Moore, a conservator of natural science collections, who has conducted the course in the United Kingdom and Europe since 2004 and who has specialised in fluid preservation technology since 1970. The four-day course will cover all aspects of fluid preservation and conservation of fluid-preserved specimens, including glass technology (cutting, drilling, grinding), jar sealing and fluid preparation, specimen mounting and repair, re-hydration and dealing with problems such as yellowing fluids and pH. The course comprises some PowerPoint presentations with a large practical component. For an example of workshop content, please refer to Simon Moore's previous course structure at http://www.natural-history-conservation.com/nextcourse.htm

This workshop is designed primarily for conservators, collection managers and other professionals responsible for the care and preservation of natural history collections.

Fees for the workshop are AUD $1400 (incl. GST) which will cover all materials, notes and catering.

Please contact Karina Palmer on +61 3 8341 7183 or kpalmer at museum.vic.gov.au<mailto:kpalmer at museum.vic.gov.au> for a registration form.
