The Ohio Historical Society is seeking a full-time Curator I in its Museum & Library Services Division.

The position works in the Archaeology and Natural History Unit. Examples of job responsibilities include:
    *Assist in management of museum collections in natural history; including cataloging, data entry, and
      preservation.
    *Specimen acquisition and preparation.
    *Interpretation of natural history through publications, exhibits, and public programming.
    *Implementation of land and natural areas management at OHS sites, including management plans
      for protected species.
    *Act as liaison for OHS natural areas.
    *Work with site partners to manage and interpret OHS natural history sites, including trail planning
       and repair, deer management, and conducting educational programs.
    *Research and communication of research findings through exhibits, multi-media scripts, reports, and
      on-line projects.
    *Responds to public, professional and scholarly inquiries.
    *Working with volunteers, interns, and visiting researchers.
    *Other duties as assigned.

The Ohio Historical Society's natural history collections currently include more than 29,000 specimens in our direct care, plus 215,000 specimens on long-term loan to the Ohio State University. Our natural areas include several Dedicated State Nature Preserves and National Natural Landmarks. Applicants should have a Master's degree from an accredited university in a discipline of natural history (botany, ecology, natural resource management, entomology, geology, museum studies, etc.), or a Bachelor's degree and equivalent work experience, plus a minimum of one to three years' experience in natural history museum work, research, or public education.

A knowledge of the natural history of Ohio or equivalent region as well as computer skills with word processing and databases is desired. Strong organizational skills and ability to handle fragile museum specimens required. Ability to work well with a variety of people, such as co-workers, site partners, museum visitors, and researchers is essential. The applicant should be accustomed to and capable of field work in all sorts of weather conditions. The primary work site will be the OHS center in Columbus, with occasional travel and work at OHS sites around Ohio.
