[Nhcoll-l] assessment of antique taxidermy?

Hello all,

I recently received a request from a private collector who is in possession
of what might be a Bali Tiger specimen; the collector has owned it since the
2000s, and knows the previous owner bought it in the 1960s. He's been
working with USF&W to have the necessary permits, FYI.

The question: is there anyone out there who could assess the age of this
specimen? The collector has had some taxidermy people look at it but is not
convinced they're being truthful and would rather scientists/academics doing
studies on these types of animals look at it, or perhaps even do some
chemical/DNA tests to ascertain age/species.

The collector is looking to sell the specimen, but he doesn't want a
valuation-he wants to find out if it's possible that the specimen is over
100 years of age and that it is the type of tiger he thinks it might be.

Is there anyone on list who could help with information or might know of
some resources for the collector to contact? Please message off list.

Thanks and best wishes,

Nezka
