... maybe a bit late but might be worth adding:

Symbol Scanners are widely distributed at parcel companies and 
supermarkets, which results in two advantages:

1. They are _very_ robust (own experiences from several years at the air 
recovery point of a major parcel delivery company)
2. They have good technical support
