Have you offered it to any museums? Deconstructed, the antlers+attached
frontals, hooves, patches of hide, etc. would all yield valuable scientific
information to current and future researchers, especially if there are
associated data. Selling specimens sends a message...

Hello,

My museum’s collections committee recently voted to deaccession a Persian
Fallow Deer mount (the taxidermy is poor quality). Whenever possible, we
try to find homes for our deaccessions at other museums or collecting
nonprofits, before we resort to sending pieces to public auction. However,
since this particular specimen is endangered, we’ve been researching what/
if any restrictions we’ll face to sending this mount to auction. All we’ve
been able to find are the restrictions to exporting the specimen, but
nothing regarding its sale within the U.S. If you know of intra-U.S. sales
restrictions on endangered species, could you please point me in the right
direction to those laws?

Many thanks,
