Hello,

We have a piece of damaged polar bear fur within my museum’s collection. The
fur is damaged beyond repair and our Collections Committee has voted to
deaccession and then safely dispose of the piece through our taxidermy
hazmat disposal company. Before we do this, I’d like to make sure there
aren’t any restrictions on disposing of this type of material.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to locate any paperwork on when the piece
of fur came into the collection. We moved into our current building in 1970
and a lot of the documentation on the collection did not make the move. Most
of the collection dates between 1870s and 1920s, but there are newer
specimens as well. Any insight you can offer is much appreciated.

Thanks,
