Pete makes some good points & good advice, but you still need reciprocal Material Transfer Agreements.
Also include a copy of the MTA with he other documents for the shipment and put them in a clear plastic envelope on the outside of the package so all concerned can easily find them.

Hi Mary Beth,

Do not send specimens via FedEx, UPS, or other carriers - you may never see them again. Use the US Postal Service. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you include the proper customs documents from Brasil (I think this is the Material Transfer Agreement David referred to). Provide the people requesting the loan with the number and kinds of specimens and have them prepare this document with you. If they are not familiar with these documents do not send the loan. I have successfully sent/received insect specimens to/from Brasil over the past few years.

Pete

Greetings All:

I received a request for a loan to University Federal of Rio Grande do Sul in Brasil and was wondering if there are any restrictions or recommendations for mailing dry specimens to this institution? Has anyone else corresponded with them for loans?

Thanks in advance,

Mary Beth
