[Nhcoll-l] Pigeon mess

Hi Heidi,

the spikes Susan linked in her post are commonly applied all over Munich
on all sorts of buildings; buildings with more complex façades are
usually netted. As
pigeons are very clever birds it is definitely worth to follow John's
recommendation to remove all nests first. If you apply these spikes on
the ledges, make sure they are set densely enough. I have spotted some
pigeons near our museum which are smart enough to balance themselves in
between those spikes if they are too widely spaced.

Scaring them off (loudly clapping your hands and shouting at them in
combination with chasing them off with water loaded super soakers)
usually works also very well - pigeons have a very good memory and
usually avoid areas where they witnessed really scary situations (The
house of my neighbour is invested with pigeons which have been breeding
there since 2-3 years. Then they tried to spread; immediate neighbours
used the spikes, when I saw them in our gable I scared them off - they
never came back).

If the façade should be too complex or too high, hiring a falconer might
be another option. This also helps against impertinent crows.

Best of success!
Dirk
