Hi, everyone. If you’re like me, you are currently thinking about your course schedules for Fall semester. I encourage you to consider adding WeDigBio to those schedules on October 19 or 20 (a Thursday or Friday) this year. For the past two years I've reserved a computer lab for my Field Botany class during WeDigBio, and the students transcribed specimen labels at one of the participating platforms (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.notesfromnature.org_&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=RGCaTHd2_sIpf490yaVW2kQsSEqw0qk8XkHbgkttipU&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.notesfromnature.org_&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=RGCaTHd2_sIpf490yaVW2kQsSEqw0qk8XkHbgkttipU&e= >) while working through the exercises at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_content_educational-2Dexercises&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=OThMPI29XQ3B7_yjN6F-awVjmCz9CZR3gDL1iLyzEyE&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_content_educational-2Dexercises&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=OThMPI29XQ3B7_yjN6F-awVjmCz9CZR3gDL1iLyzEyE&e= >. It’s been very popular, and it familiarized them with professional herbarium labels at a time when they were beginning to produce labels for their own required plant collection.

Not offering a plant-focused course? No problem. There are transcription projects focused on other taxa as well at the participating online citizen science platforms (see https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_find-2Da-2Dproject&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=3c6vlppUbu1i5n2zrgHZumdUxHApFqAkrWf4x1TerYo&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_find-2Da-2Dproject&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=3c6vlppUbu1i5n2zrgHZumdUxHApFqAkrWf4x1TerYo&e= > for links to them).

If you decide to participate in WeDigBio in this way, be sure to fill out the very short event host form at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_content_wedigbio-2Devent-2Dhosts&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=hlLp1PE86ADmC6hyiKoBl_OwrLdjpbX-sTVuSaRARBw&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_content_wedigbio-2Devent-2Dhosts&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=hlLp1PE86ADmC6hyiKoBl_OwrLdjpbX-sTVuSaRARBw&e= > so that you can receive updates.

And if you create your own WeDigBio-focused exercise, don’t keep it a secret. Share it with the community at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=TDmogtC8Sq2dXlUkDczUqycVeJim7czaiM5JIO-RdOI&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.wedigbio.org_&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=TDmogtC8Sq2dXlUkDczUqycVeJim7czaiM5JIO-RdOI&e= > and https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__collectionseducation.org_&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=3KiXIV9yota_RANeiKuf0l0ha4ciyXcyis_wOaVdqgQ&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__collectionseducation.org_&d=DwIFaQ&c=cjytLXgP8ixuoHflwc-poQ&r=LpYc_Z_iN1KRw0hheb3x6-8MJUMu482qfHowpGYJqwc&m=HSs6JzKF_OoD29HMXTj5fkQnIEmqn-YXuj7OQdil1yI&s=3KiXIV9yota_RANeiKuf0l0ha4ciyXcyis_wOaVdqgQ&e= >.

It’s a great opportunity to familiarize your students with biodiversity specimens and specimen data while making a genuine contribution to science. Thanks for considering this!
