Have you ever had a curatorial cringe moment? Have you looked at a collection label and been faced with something insensitive at best, offensive at worst?

We are a small task force of collections professionals addressing derogatory language in collections and their associated data and we are gathering information on institutional practices dealing with collections that contain offensive language.

We invite your input in a 10-question survey<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScN-eWZb0T2FWUVJF80Ge-MW_RttZwNBihtA8j_sgt36X3Xiw/viewform?usp=sf_link> that will help to assess if and how collections are dealing with these types of materials with the goal of documenting and developing best practices to preserve the historical integrity of scientific collections while also facilitating a safe and inclusive environment for museum staff as well as global users of our data.

Please take a moment to answer this short survey, and share it with natural history collections colleagues who may not be on this list. The survey will be open until February 14th. For any questions about the project, please contact Laura Briscoe (lbriscoe at nybg.org).
