Whether 70% ethanol works as a glass cleaner depends on the water. If you use regular tap water, you're likely to find that the minerals in the water will smear all over the glass. Mix it up with purified deionized water, though, and it should work.
Though it's frowned on, I must say that trisodium phosphate cleans glass (sheet and vessels) like nothing else. A teaspoonful of powder (in the US it's sold as Alconox) in a gallon of warm water is all it takes.
